In Detroit, we celebrate college application season by celebrating #WhyApply in September and hosting Michigan College Application Month during the month of October.

#WhyApply day is the annual kick-off celebration of the college application season, and the purpose of College Application Month is to support students with applying to college.

Our goal is to help all graduating high school seniors navigate the complex college admissions process and provide the opportunity to complete at least three applications by the conclusion of College Application Month at their high schools.

College Application Month

The American College Application Campaign (ACAC) is a national effort to increase the number of first-generation and low-income students who pursue a postsecondary education.

The purpose is to help high school seniors navigate the college admissions process and ensure each participating student submits at least one admission applications. Special focus is placed on assisting students who would be the first in their families to attend college and students who may not have considered applying to college.

MCAN has adopted this national campaign, and DCAN supports Detroit high schools and community-based organizations with participating each October.

In 2018-2019, 1,982 students from 16 high schools participated and completed 4,572 college applications. An average of 2.3 per student. Our goal this year is 3 college applications per student.  This year we expect at least 40 high schools and community based organizations  to participate. Below is a list of schools:
