College Application Month (CAM)
In Detroit, we celebrate college application season by celebrating #WhyApply Day on Friday, September 21st and hosting Michigan College Application Month during the month of October. #WhyApply Day is the annual kick off celebration of the college application season, and the purpose of College Application Month is to support students with applying to college.
Our goal is to help all graduating high school seniors navigate the complex college admissions process and provide the opportunity to complete at least one application by the conclusion of College Application Month at host high schools.
How did #WhyApply & CAM
The American College Application Campaign, launched by the American Council on Education (ACE), is a national effort to increase the number of first-generation and low-income students who pursue a postsecondary education. The purpose is to help high school seniors navigate the college admissions process and ensure that each participating student submits at least one admissions application. Special focus is placed on assisting students who would be the first in their families to attend college and students who may not have otherwise seriously considered applying to college.
When does #WhyApply take place?
This year, the American College Application Campaign will kick off the national efforts with a #WhyApply Day on Friday, September 21, 2018.
The campaign is conducted state by state and is typically held in October. While activities may vary from state to state, everyone is striving toward the common goal of providing every graduating seniors an opportunity to apply to college. The American College Application Campaign can open the door for students by encouraging them to take a significant step toward college in their senior year. In Michigan, this campaign is led and organized by the Michigan College Access Network (MCAN) and held in October.
