Volunteer with DCAN

DCAN supports our partners where needed in the development of creating a college-going culture within their schools and organizations. As a volunteer there's a wide range of activities to pick from.  Including our program events, such as Detroit College Day, College Decision Signing Day, and community events such as helping seniors fill out college applications or College 101 presentations. The main responsibility of a volunteer is to be a positive encouragement for students and their staff. This includes being youth focused and believing in equity for all students. You are not expected to be an expert on financial aid or the college admissions processes or any other fields. We provide easy training and you are able to support in any way you are comfortable.

Schools request support on addressing myths about college and how to prepare. College 101 is a predesigned powerpoint. As a volunteer, you can present or assist us in engaging a group of students using the College 101 presentation. All training and support for preparation of presenting is provided to volunteers by DCAN..

Held in March each year, Detroit College Day is a large college and career fair featuring numerous schools. We are looking for volunteers to help with the event all day including set up, tear down and various other tasks.

College Decision/Signing Day

Throughout the month of May to celebrate students post-secondary endeavors. Volunteers have the opportunity to support these students at the events with operational needs for the event and/or cheering on the students as they announce their post-graduation plans.
