Volunteer with DCAN

DCAN supports our partners where needed in the development of creating a college-going culture within their schools and organizations. Schools and organizations often times need volunteers to assist in carrying out their program initiatives. Registration for volunteers to help with various parts of the college process, will be managed by DCAN. These opportunities to volunteer include but not limited to: ‚Äč

College

101

Presentations

Schools request support on educating underclassmen on how to prepare for college. College 101 is a predesigned informational presentation given at requested schools to younger students. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to present to a group/class of students using the College 101 presentation on how to prepare for college. All training and support for preparation of presenting is provided to volunteers by DCAN.

College Application Month

October is Michigan College Month which features numerous activities to celebrate  and encourage students who are engaged in the college going process. Volunteers can help counselors in organizing and setting up events according to each school’s needs.

Financial

Aid

Support

The College Cash Campaign is a statewide initiative in Michigan that is held from November 1 through March 1 and encourages schools to rally around FAFSA and scholarship completion to help students find cash for college. Schools will require volunteers that are knowledgeable about the financial aid process and application completion.

Detroit

College

Day

Held in March each year, Detroit College Day is a large college and career fair featuring numerous schools. We are looking for volunteers to help with the event all day including set up, tear down and various other tasks.

College Decision/Signing Day

These events are open to those supporting schools with their days’ activities. These events are hosted throughout the month of May to celebrate students post-secondary endeavors. Volunteers have the opportunity to support these students at the events with operational needs for the event and/or cheering on the students as they announce their post-graduation plans.
