college, finding a job and more.

HISTORY

In the past, Get Schooled and DCAN were funded by General Motors who all teamed up to deliver a range of support to Detroit students. Support included a text hotline to ask questions and get a direct answer, digital content and resources, college application essay help, and school-wide programming to create a social college-going culture online. Get Schooled engaged students to learn about college, while earning prizes for their level of activity.

The 2018-2019 engagement in Detroit was the following:

  • Over 12,400 students registered on the Get Schooled Detroit platform

  • 4275 badges were completed. Badges are a tool that the platform used to share content pertaining to a specific topic that students might be interested in

  • 62,000 text exchanged between students and the platforms text line. This text line allows students to ask questions about preparing, paying, applying, and succeeding in college.

Get Schooled was founded in 2010 through a partnership with Viacom and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. In launching, they’ve posted more than 10 million visits and have built a community of approximately a million young

people attending up to 11,000 middle schools, high schools and colleges throughout the United States.
